A Pennsylvania congressman says former President Barack Obama remained in Washington after leaving the oval office with the sole intent of running a “shadow government”.
U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly told his fellow Republicans at an event this week that the true reason Obama stayed behind was not so his youngest daughter could finish school, as he claimed, but to undermine the GOP’s agenda.
A video of the event posted on Friday to YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKNg0Bm9c1k&feature=youtu.be) shows Kelly saying that Obama remained in Washington for “one purpose only … to run the shadow government that is going to totally upset the new agenda.”
A spokesperson for the former president called the allegations “ridiculous” and stated that the president’s only goal was to allow his youngest daughter, Sasha, to finish high school with friends.
However, Barack Obama has himself went on record in saying that he will “speak out” on Trump’s actions whenever he feels it necessary.
“I want to be respectful of the office and give the president-elect an opportunity to put forward his platform and his arguments without somebody popping off in every instance,” Obama said in November following the election of president Trump. “But as an American citizen who cares deeply about our country, if there are issues that have less to do with the specifics of some legislative proposal but go to core questions about our values and our ideals, and if I think that it is necessary or helpful for me to defend those ideals, I’ll examine it when it comes.”
On Friday a spokesman for Kelly said the congressman was just “sharing the frustration of everyone in the room over how they believe certain Obama administration holdovers” are making efforts to upset President Trump’s agenda.
