LONDON, ENGLAND — A crime expert who has investigated the Madeline McCann case is now calling the child’s parents claims that the toddler was abducted a farce and says the toddler is likely dead.
Pat Brown, criminal profiler and author of the book “Profile of the Disappearance of Madeleine McCann” told news.com.au
(http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/real-life/news-life/the-only-madeleine-mccann-theory-that-stacks-up/news-story/44291faa8d69db7e9d6b6a40fe4b5205) that Scotland Yard botched the investigation into the child’s disappearance and criticized the agency for “wasting time and money” on Madeleine’s case.
“Madeleine is dead,” Brown said. “There’s no point spending all of this money as nothing they do is going to make that child alive.”
Brown went on to detail the list of reasons that brought her to that conclusion.
“When I do a crime scene analysis it is a theory based on evidence to then be given to police and used to look for more proof and evidence suitable for prosecution,” she said.
“When I analysed (Madeleine’s) case, it led me to believe evidence does not support an abduction. An abduction was extremely unlikely based on the amount of time, evidence at the scene, and every other shred of evidence there has ever been,” Brown continued.
Brown says that in her opinion, McCann was likely killed by accident and her death “covered up”.
“The evidence supports the theory of an accident occurring through neglect and possible medication,” she said. “It’s my belief the body was moved to a desolate location and will never be found.”
The child’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann have always denied any denied any wrongdoing in the disappearance of their daughter and say that despite Brown’s claims, they refuse to give up hope that one day their child will be found.
Madeleine McCann disappeared at age 3 on the evening of May 3, 2007 while on holiday with her parents in Praia da Luz, a resort in the Algarve region of Portugal. The toddler’s disappearance sparked what one newspaper called “the most heavily reported missing-person case in modern history”.
Portuguese police say they too believe that Madeleine died in an accident in the apartment, and that her parents worked together to cover the incident up.
Her whereabouts remain unknown.
