CAUGHT IN TIME: NEW JERSEY STUDENTS ARRESTED AFTER PLOTTING ‘SANDY HOOK STYLE ATTACK’

PATERSON, N.J.– Two New Jersey students have been placed under arrest after police say they were caught planning a Sandy Hook style massacre at their former elementary school.

According to a report published in the Patterson Press (http://www.northjersey.com/story/news/passaic/paterson/2017/03/28/2-eastside-students-arrested-talk-columbine-like-attack/99758718/), police were alerted after the principal at New Roberto Clemente elementary school discovered that two local High School students, a girl and a boy, had visited websites that offer instruction on how to mimic the deadly shootings that occurred at Columbine High School in Colorado and Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Paterson Police Director Jerry Speziale said detectives in the juvenile division were notified about the threats on Tuesday. “It was determined to be a valid threat,” he said.

After searching the homes of the two students, police say they and did not discover any weapons but found sufficient cause to believe that the attack planning was in its early stages. The teens, both students at Eastside High School in Paterson, were taken into custody a short time later.

“We are working very closely with the school district,” said Speziale, “to ensure the safety of everyone involved.”

Deputy Police Chief Troy Oswald confirmed that terrorist threat charges were filed against both juveniles.

Their names have not been released.
