RETURN OF THE CREEPY CLOWNS? POLICE: MACHETE WIELDING CLOWN TERRORIZING DRIVERS ALONG CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Just when you thought it was safe to go back outside, police say a new surge of so called “creepy clown” sightings are being reported.

The latest incident, which occurred in Monterey County, California, was reported on Wednesday night after witnesses say a clown was spotted standing along Highway 101 carrying a machete seemingly covered in blood.

According to police reports, when deputies from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene they handcuffed and questioned the man behind the stunt.

The man in the clown suit, later identified as 61-year-old Larry Tovey, was not charged with a crime, say police, because no one was directly threatened by him with the machete. After being tested by authorities, the “blood” on the machete turned out to be cotton dipped in red dye.

“Just carrying it doesn’t make it a deadly weapon,” the Sheriff’s department wrote on it’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Monterey-County-Sheriffs-Office-1417390841810291/). “It’s actually a tool and since he didn’t use it as a deadly weapon to threaten someone, there was no crime.”

“It stands to reason he may have threatened someone, but we don’t have any information on that,” the sheriff’s explanation continued, “So we may not arrest on what he might have done.”

Tovey was given a psychiatric evaluation at the scene, say police, but it was determined that he posed no immediate danger to himself or others.

In 2016, a wealth of creepy clown sightings were first reported all over the United States. Although no one was ultimately harmed as a direct result, the sightings caused a great deal of panic nation wide.
