LOS ANGELES, CA — Self admitted D-list actress Kathy Griffin caused a wave of controversy Tuesday after video from photo shoot was leaked that shows the comediane holding what is supposed to be a replica of president Donald Trump’s severed head.
The actress, best known for her reality series, “My Life on the D List” can be seen laughing as she holds a model of Trump’s sliced off head dripping in blood.
“This is fake blood, just so you know,” says Griffin in video provided to TMZ (http://www.tmz.com/2017/05/30/kathy-griffin-beheads-donald-trump-photo-tyler-shields/). “I won’t give away what we’re doing, but Tyler and I are not afraid to do images that make noise. He also lights me to the point where I look about 15. First I’m an artist, but really it’s good lighting.”
“We’re going to go to prison — federal prison. Call your dad, apologize,” Griffin added.
Shortly after the video was released, social media lit up with outrage, with Conservatives pointing out what they called a double standard.
“Can you imagine the consequences if a conservative posted a video holding the severed head of Barack Obama?” one Twitter user wrote.
“Imagine the meltdown if a conservative celebrity had posed with a mock-up of Obama’s decapitated head,” journalist Paul Joseph Watson tweeted.
The video quickly led to calls for Griffin to be arrested.
In 2007, Griffin caused similar anger amongst Christians when she made an off color remark about Jesus Christ while accepting an Emmy award for best reality show.
“A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this. He had nothing to do with this,” Griffin said in her acceptance speech. “Suck it, Jesus. This award is my God now.”
The gruesome photo isn’t the first piece of so called“artwork” to depict Trump being beheaded; in August, a cartoon version of Trump had his head cut off in an issue of the comic book Spawn, and in March comedian George Lopez tweeted a cartoon image of Mexican drug lord El Chapo beheading the president.
Calls for comment to a Kathy Griffin spokesperson have not been returned.
