DON’T COUNT HIM OUT YET: Conservative group launches $1.5M campaign to defend Kavanaugh on sexual assault allegations

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A high power conservative group announced Monday that it plans to launch a new ad campaign geared toward defending Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh from sexual assault allegations stemming from the 1980’s.

The Judicial Crisis Network announced that it will spend $1.5 million to air television ads featuring a 35-year friend of Kavanaugh who says he can repudiate allegations that Trump’s pick for Supreme Court nominee assaulted a female during a high school party as a teenager.

“We are not going to allow a last-minute smear campaign destroy a good and decent man who has an unblemished personal record,” a spokesperson for the group said Monday in a statement.

Kavanaugh’s accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, claims a druken Kavanaugh backed her onto a bed and tried to tear off her clothes during a party in the 1980s. Ford claims Kavanaugh also covered her mouth when she tried to scream for help.

In a statement Monday Kavanaugh called the allegations against him “completely false” and said he is willing to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee to prove his innocence.

Democratic leaders on the judiciary panel have called for Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing, originally scheduled for this Thursday, to be delayed until his accuser has had time to testify.
